[How to] Create Custom Application Shortcut in GNOME

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil-‘alamin. Wa shallallaahu ‘alaa Muhammad.

In this section, we’d talk about creating our custom application shortcut in GNOME, so it would be shown in GNOME Application launcher. We’ll use ‘gedit’ to perform this task.

1. Run ‘gedit’ and create a new file.

2. Begin with typing [Desktop Entry], and fill the following with the properties of corresponding application. The ‘MimeType’ line as shown below is necessary.

3. Save it as ‘[app-name].dekstop’ under ‘~/.local/share/applications’.

This is an example how we create our custom application shortcut in GNOME.
