[How to] Install Adium Theme on GNOME Messenger (Empathy)

Assalamu’alaikum for muslim readers and welcome back.

Empathy is the default messenger application for GNOME that mostly comes pre-installed by default on most GNOME distros. It comes with 3 preloaded themes by default those we can choose to match our needs: Boxes. Classic, and Planet-GNOME.

Sometimes we might not be satisfied by these and want to install additional theme which match our preference. Is it possible?

Alhamdulillah it is possible, at least until this passage is being written. To do so, we could:

  1. download an Adium theme from http://www.adiumxtras.com/ ; the file downloaded could be a .ZIP file.
  2. Extract the *.AdiumMessageStyle folder to ‘~/.local/share/adium/message-styles/’.
  3. Change the theme from Empathy | Preferences | Themes.

Extracted folder should be followed by ‘.AdiumMessageStyle’ on its name.

If those steps above don’t work for you, another setup from ‘dconf-editor’ insha-aAllah would do. Run ‘dconf-editor’ and navigate to ‘org.gnome.Empathy.conversation’. Change the ‘adium-path’ value with the correct one.
